However, a White House official says the Biden administration will not be advocating for a program like this, since it’s a challenge to run and requires Congressional approval. Gas rebate cards could be a great temporary solution However, there are several issues that have to be addressed before it becomes real for American consumers.

The federal government has not implemented the Gas Rebate Act of 2022 yet, but it is looking into such plan and some states and cities have already enacted legislation for it. Inflation rebates are intended for helping people deal with rising prices. While it is not a federal program most of these rebates can be issued by state governments based on surpluses. The federal government ought to consider this scheme as a method to fight the current high costs of fuel and other goods.
Some states have tried to cut their gas costs and are looking into offering credits to the citizens of their states. Some states, including New York, are considering abolishing the gas tax completely or offering a small discount. The governor has also offered tax breaks for renters as well as homeowners who pay their gas taxes over that of the minimum federal rate. The governor has even suggested reducing the gas tax by fifty percent when the median price for unleaded fuel is $4.51 per gallon during summer. While the federal government is not trying to put together any type of stimulus plan in the state legislature, lawmakers from the state and President Biden have put forward a variety of ideas to aid consumers. These include a 3 month gasoline tax break. But as of late June there is nothing concrete being discussed by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates begin rolling out across every state. While President Trump has even proposed the idea of a national holiday for gas taxes but he is unable to find any law that would allow him to fund it.

In the last two months, House Democratic counsel condemned the scheme, concluding the plan would cause inflation, was too expensive, and was not targeted enough.
