Some states have tried at reducing their gas taxes and are currently considering offering credits to the citizens of their states. Governor Bloomberg has also proposed tax reductions for renters and homeowners who are paying gas taxes in excess of those at the national minimum. He even proposed reducing the gas tax by half when the price of unleaded fuel hits $4.51 a gallon in the summer. Some politicians in New York state have also proposed suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

Although the federal government isn’t seeking to create any sort of stimulus plan in the state legislature, lawmakers from the state and President Biden have put forward a variety of ideas to aid consumers. These proposals include a three-month vacation on the gas tax. However, as of the end of June there is nothing concrete being discussed by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates begin with every state. Although President Obama has suggested the idea of a national holiday for gas taxes however, he’s not been able to come up with an appropriate legislation to pay for it.
