The federal government must consider the possibility of a similar scheme as an effective method to reduce the current high prices for gasoline and other products.
A few states have tried to lower their gas taxes and are looking into offering credits to the citizens of their states. Some states, like New York, are considering cutting the gas taxes completely or offering a rebate. Governor Cuomo also has proposed taxes for renters as well as homeowners who pay gas taxes at or above their federally minimum. The President has made a proposal for the idea of a national holiday for gas taxes but he is unable to find any legislation that could fund it.
