The federal government could consider the possibility of a similar scheme as a way to combat the current high price of gasoline and other products.
Certain states have attempted to cut their gas taxes and are also considering tax refunds for their citizens. Some states, like New York, are considering eliminating the gas tax entirely or offering a small amount of rebate. The governor has also offered tax cuts for renters or homeowners who pay gas tax over that of the minimum federal rate. He even has proposed cutting the gas tax by 50 percent when the average price of fuel that is not leaded reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Certain politicians in New York state have also supported the suspension of the state gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

While the federal government is not planning to launch any kind of stimulus plan in the state legislature, lawmakers from the state and President Biden have put forward a variety of ideas to assist consumers.
