The federal government must consider such a program as a feasible way to reduce the current high prices of gasoline and other products.
Some states have tried to cut their gas taxes and are now considering offering rebates or refunds to their residents. Some states, like New York, are considering eliminating the gas tax entirely or offering a small refund. The governor has also offered tax reductions for renters and homeowners who pay for gas at or above those at the national minimum. He even proposed reducing the tax on gas by half when the cost of unleaded fuel hits $4.51 per gallon in summer. Some of the political leaders in New York state have also advocated for the removal of the state gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in every state.
While the federal government isn’t endeavoring to introduce any kind of stimulus plan however, state legislators and the President Biden have proposed various proposals to help consumers. These proposals include a three-month discount on gasoline taxes. In the final days of June, nothing concrete is being discussed by Congress. It will be some time before gas rebates start to roll out in all states. While President Trump has suggested nationwide gas tax holidays but he is unable to find an appropriate legislation to pay for the holiday.
