While they’re not a federal government program the majority of these rebates are offered by states’ governments using surplus funds. The federal government needs to think about this for a practical way for tackling the current high prices of gas and other commodities.
Certain states have attempted to reduce their gas prices and are also considering cash back to citizens. Some states, like New York, are considering eliminating the gas tax entirely or offering a small rebate. The governor also proposed tax cuts for renters and homeowners who pay for gas in excess of thresholds of federal minimum.
