The federal government should consider such a program as a way to tackle the high prices of fuel and other commodities.
Certain states have attempted to lower their gas taxes and are considering offering refunds to residents. Certain states, such as New York, are considering eliminating the gas tax entirely or offering a modest rebate. Governor New York has also proposed tax cuts for renters or homeowners who are paying gas taxes at or above those at the national minimum. He has even proposed reducing the gas tax by 50 percent when the average price of unleaded gas reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Some politicians in New York state have also advocated for the removal of the state gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.

While the federal government isn’t intending to implement any type of stimulus plan states’ lawmakers and President Biden have offered a range of suggestions to aid consumers. The proposals include a three-month gas tax holiday. In the final days of June, nothing concrete is being examined by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates start to be distributed across every state. Although the President has been able to propose nationwide gas tax holidays, he has not found any viable legislation to fund the holiday.
