Gas rebate cards could be a great temporary solution but there are plenty of problems to be worked out before it becomes something that is feasible for American consumers.
New Mexico State Gas Rebate from Federal Government
The federal government has not implemented the Gas Rebate Act that will take effect in 2022. However, it is looking at plans, and certain cities and states have passed legislation to support it. Inflation rebates are intended to aid citizens with the increase in costs. While not a federal program, many of these rebates are offered by state governments based on surpluses. Federal government officials should look into this as an effective way to combat the current high prices of gasoline and other goods.
Certain states have tried at reducing their gas taxes as well as are considering cash back to citizens. Certain states, such as New York, are considering cutting the gas taxes completely or offering a small discount. The governor has also proposed taxes for renters as well as homeowners that pay gas tax over the federal minimum rate. He even proposed reducing the gas tax by half when the cost of non-leaded fuel reaches $4.51 per gallon in summer. A few political figures in New York state have also agreed to suspend the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.
