The federal government has not passed the Gas Rebate Act of 2022 just yet, but it is looking into such plan and some cities and states have already implemented legislation in this regard. The purpose of these rebates is to aid citizens price increases. While they’re not a federal government program, many of these rebates are issued through state governments who have surplus funds. The federal government needs to think about this type of scheme for a practical way to combat the current high prices of gasoline and other goods.
Certain states have attempted to lower their gas taxes as well as are considering credits to the citizens of their states. While President Trump has even proposed an all-national gas tax holiday and has not yet found any legislation that could fund it.
