However, a White House official says the Biden administration is not advocating for such a program, as it would be difficult to run and requires Congressional approval. A gas card might be a good temporary fix however, there are many issues that need to be identified before it’s the reality of American consumers.

The federal government hasn’t adopted the Gas Rebate Act of 2022 just yet, but it is looking into such plans. Some cities and states have already passed legislation to support it. Inflation rebate checks are intended as a way to help consumers cope to rising costs. Although not a program of the federal government most such rebates are given through state governments with surpluses. The federal government needs to think about this as an effective method in order to lower the costs of fuel and other products.
Some states have tried in reducing their gas rates and are considering offering refunds to residents. Some states, like New York, are considering stopping the gas tax entirely or offering a modest rebate. The governor also proposed tax breaks for renters as well as homeowners who pay gas prices in excess of that of the minimum federal rate. Governor Andrew Cuomo has even proposed cutting the gas tax by fifty percent when the median price of fuel that is not leaded reaches $4.51 per gallon during summer. Some politicians in New York state have also been in favor of suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

While the federal government is not endeavoring to introduce any kind of stimulus package state lawmakers and President Biden have offered a range of suggestions to aid consumers. While President Trump has even proposed an annual gas tax holiday across the country, he has not found any viable legislation to fund it.
They are controversial
It doesn’t matter what the politics of the idea regardless of the political stance, gas rebates are among the many options to help Americans pay for the cost of gas. But, they’ve already run into some resistance. A couple of months ago, House Democratic counsel was critical of the proposal, concluding that it could cause inflation, it was too expensive as well as not being targeted properly enough. Before that, higher-up White House aides raised concerns about the rebate cards due to that there were no microchips.
