The federal government has not yet passed the Gas Rebate Law from 2022. However, it is considering such an idea, and some cities and states have already approved legislation for it. Inflation rebates are meant to help citizens cope with the rise in prices. Though they are not federal programs the majority of these rebates are issued by states’ governments using surplus funds. The federal government could consider such a program as a viable option to fight the current high prices of fuel and other products.
Some states have tried to reduce their gas tax and are looking into offering credits to the citizens of their states. Certain states, such as New York, are considering suspending the gas tax altogether or offering a tiny rebate. Governor Andrew Cuomo has also suggested tax breaks for renters as well as homeowners who pay gas taxes in excess of levels that are higher than federal minimum rates. He has even proposed reducing the tax on gas by fifty percent when the median price of unleaded gas reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Some political leaders in New York state have also backed suspending the state gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.

These include a 3 month period of a gas tax vacation. However, as of the end of June Nothing concrete has been thought of by Congress. It could be a while before gas rebates start to be distributed across every state. While President Obama has offered an all-national gas tax holiday however, he hasn’t found any viable legislation to fund it.
