The federal government needs to think about such a program as an effective method in order to lower the price of gasoline and other products.
Certain states have tried in reducing their gas rates and are considering offering the residents of those states with refunds. Governor Andrew Cuomo has also suggested tax relief for renters and homeowners that pay gas tax over what the Federal minimum. Certain political leaders from New York state have also advocated for the removal of the state gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in all states.
Although the federal government isn’t trying to put together any type of stimulus package state lawmakers and President Biden has proposed a variety of solutions for consumers. This includes a three-month discount on gasoline taxes. In the final days of June, nothing concrete is being looked at by Congress. It will be some time before gas rebates begin to be distributed across all states. While President Obama has offered to extend a national gas tax holiday however, he’s yet to find any viable legislation to fund it.
