The federal government has not come up with the Gas Rebate act for 2022 yet, but it is considering such an idea, and some cities and states have already promulgated legislation for it. Inflation rebate checks are intended for helping people deal with the increasing cost of living. While not a federal programme, many of these rebates were issued through state governments with surpluses. The federal government must consider this program as a feasible way to combat the current high cost of gasoline as well as other commodities.
Some states have tried to reduce their gas tax and are now considering offering tax refunds for their citizens. Some states, like New York, are considering eliminating the gas tax entirely or offering a tiny rebate. Governor Bloomberg has also proposed taxes for renters as well as homeowners who pay gas tax over those at the national minimum. The governor has even suggested reducing the tax on gas by half when the cost of unleaded gas reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Some politicians in New York state have also supported the suspension of the state gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

While President Trump has proposed the idea of a national holiday for gas taxes but he is unable to find any legislation that could fund it.
