However, a White House official says the Biden administration will not be advocating for such a program, because it’s difficult to implement and requires Congressional approval. A gas card might seem like a viable solution for a short-term fix but there are plenty of issues that have to be taken care of before the program can become an actual reality for American consumers.

The federal government hasn’t come up with the Gas Rebate act for 2022 yet, but it is looking at plan and some cities and states have already enacted legislation for it. Checks for inflation rebates are designed to aid citizens with the rise in prices. While they aren’t a federal program most of these rebates can be issued by state governments based on surpluses. The federal government could consider this program as a viable option to combat the current high price of gasoline and other goods.
Certain states have tried at reducing their gas taxes and are now considering offering reimbursements for residents. Some states, like New York, are considering suspending the gas tax altogether or offering small rebates. Governor Cuomo also has proposed tax breaks for renters as well as homeowners who pay for gas in excess of an amount that is higher than the federal minimum. Governor Andrew Cuomo has even proposed cutting the tax on gas by half when the average price of non-leaded fuel reaches $4.51 for a gallon during summer. Some political leaders in New York state have also been in favor of suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in all states
Although the federal government isn’t in the process of implementing any type of stimulus package in the state legislature, lawmakers from the state and President Biden have put forward a variety of ideas to assist consumers. These include a 3-month fuel tax exemption. But as of late June it is unclear what is being considered by Congress. It could be a while before gas rebates start to roll out in every state. While President Trump has suggested the national gas tax holiday and has not yet found any law that would allow him to fund the holiday.
They’re controversial
No matter the politics behind the idea it is among many methods to help Americans get through the cost of gasoline. But they’ve also faced some resistance. Two months ago House Democratic counsel expressed displeasure with the plan, concluding that the plan could lead to inflation and was costly, and wasn’t properly targeted. Earlier, more senior White House aides raised concerns about the rebate card because there was a shortage of microchips.
