The federal government must consider this type of scheme as a way to address the current high prices of fuel and other commodities.
Some states have tried to cut their gas taxes and are now considering offering reimbursements for residents. Certain states, such as New York, are considering abolishing the gas tax completely or offering a small discount. The governor also proposed tax relief for renters and homeowners who pay their gas taxes at or above thresholds of federal minimum. He’s even proposed cutting the gas tax by half when the average price of fuel that is not leaded reaches $4.51 for a gallon during summer. Some political leaders in New York state have also support the idea of suspending state gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.

While the federal government isn’t attempting to implement any kind of stimulus package State lawmakers and President Biden have made a number of proposals for consumers. These proposals include a three-month fuel tax exemption. But , as of June 30 there is nothing concrete being thought of by Congress. It will be some time before gas rebates begin to be distributed across all states. While President Obama has offered that a national tax holiday on gas but he is unable to find any viable legislation to fund it.
