The federal government should consider such a program as an effective method to counter the rising costs of gasoline and other items.

Some states, like New York, are considering abolishing the gas tax completely or offering a small rebate. Governor Bloomberg has also proposed tax reductions to renters and homeowners who are paying gas taxes at or above that of the minimum federal rate. He’s even proposed to cut the gas tax by 50% when the average cost of unleaded gas reaches $4.51 per gallon during summer. Some politicians in New York state have also proposed suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in every state.
While the federal government is not endeavoring to introduce any kind of stimulus package however, state legislators and the President Biden have proposed various proposals to aid consumers. This includes a three-month relaxation of the tax on gas. However, as of the end of June no concrete plan is currently being discussed by Congress. It could be a while before gas rebates start for all states. While President Trump has even proposed an all-national gas tax holiday and has not yet found an acceptable legislation to finance it.
