However, a White House official says the Biden administration is not going to advocate against a similar scheme since it’s difficult to implement and requires Congressional approval. A gas rebate card may be a suitable temporary solution, but there are several problems that need to be solved before it can become an actual reality for American consumers.
Enbridge Gas Window Rebates from Federal Government
The federal government hasn’t come up with the Gas Rebate act for 2022 yet, but they are considering an option, and a few cities and states have already promulgated legislation for it. Inflation rebates are meant to aid citizens with rising prices. While they’re not a federal government program the majority of these rebates are offered by states’ governments using surplus funds. The federal government could consider the possibility of a similar scheme as a way to fight the current high price of gasoline and other goods.
A few states have tried to reduce their gas prices and have considered offering credits to the citizens of their states. Some states, like New York, are considering abstaining from the gas tax altogether or offering a small amount of rebate. Governor Bloomberg has also proposed tax reductions for renters, as well as homeowners who pay gas taxes at or above those at the national minimum. He’s even proposed cutting the tax on gas by 50% when the average cost of fuel that is not leaded reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Some political leaders in New York state have also agreed to suspend the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

Although the federal government isn’t looking to roll out any kind of stimulus package states’ lawmakers and President Biden have proposed various proposals that will help consumers. These include a 3-month gasoline tax break. However, as of late June no concrete plan is currently being contemplated by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates begin with all states. While President Trump has even proposed nationwide gas tax holidays but has not come across any legislation that could fund it.
They’re controversial
Whatever the political stance of the concept Gas rebate cards are among the many options to assist Americans get through the cost of gas. However, they have already come up against some resistance. Just two months ago House Democratic counsel opposed this plan, saying it could trigger inflation, was expensive, and was not targeted enough. Before, the top White House aides raised concerns about the rewards cards because they were unable to find microchips.
