However, a White House official says the Biden administration will not be advocating for such a program, because it’s difficult to administer and require Congressional approval. An incentive card for gas may be a good temporary fix, but there are several issues that need to be overcome before it is an actual reality for American customers.

The federal government has not signed the Gas Rebate legislation of 2022 yet, but it is considering such plans. Some cities and states have already put in place legislation for it. These rebates are intended to aid citizens to rising costs. While they aren’t a federal program most of these rebates can be issued through state governments who have surplus funds. The federal government should take into consideration this scheme as a method to fight the current high prices for gasoline and other commodities.
Certain states have attempted to cut their gas taxes and are currently considering offering the residents of those states with refunds. Some states, including New York, are considering cutting the gas taxes completely or offering a small refund. The governor has also offered tax cuts for renters or homeowners that pay gas tax in excess of what the Federal minimum. Governor Brown has also proposed reducing the gas tax by half when the price of unleaded oil reaches $4.51 per gallon in summer. Some political leaders in New York state have also supported the suspension of the state gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.
These aren’t available in all states.
Although the federal government is not in the process of implementing any type of stimulus plan however, state legislators and the President Biden has proposed a variety of solutions to assist consumers. These proposals include a three month gas tax holiday. But as of late June there is nothing concrete being examined by Congress. It will be some time before gas rebates start rolling out across all states. Although the President has been able to propose nationwide gas tax holidays but he is unable to find any legal way to fund the holiday.
