The federal government must consider such a program as an effective means to fight the current high price of gasoline and other goods.
Certain states have tried to cut down on their gas tax and have considered offering rebates or refunds to their residents. Some states, including New York, are considering suspending the gas tax altogether or offering small rebates. Governor Bloomberg has also proposed tax cuts for renters and homeowners who pay for gas over levels that are higher than federal minimum rates. Certain political leaders from New York state have also suggested suspending the state’s gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.

These proposals include a three month period of a gas tax vacation. In the final days of June no concrete plan is currently being thought of by Congress. Although President Obama has suggested nationwide gas tax holidays however, he’s yet to find any viable legislation to fund it.
