The federal government needs to think about this scheme for a practical way to combat the current high prices of fuel and other products.
A few states have tried to lower their gas taxes and are currently considering offering reimbursements for residents. Governor New York has also proposed tax reductions for renters and homeowners who pay gas tax over thresholds of federal minimum. He’s even proposed to cut the gas tax by 50% when the average cost of fuel that is not leaded reaches $4.51 a gallon in the summer. A few political figures in New York state have also been in favor of suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

Although the federal government has not attempting to implement any kind of stimulus package, state lawmakers and President Biden are putting forward various plans to help consumers. The proposals include a three-month relaxation of the tax on gas. However, as of the end of June, nothing concrete is being discussed by Congress. It will be some time before gas rebates begin to be offered to all states. While President Trump has proposed a national gas tax holiday and has not yet found any viable legislation to fund it.
They are controversial
In spite of the politics surrounding the idea regardless of the political stance, gas rebates are among the numerous tools to help Americans to manage the cost of gasoline.
