However, a White House official says the Biden administration is not going to advocate for a program of this kind, because it’s difficult to manage and would require Congressional approval. A gas credit card might be a suitable temporary solution However, there are several problems that need to be identified before it’s an actual reality for American customers.
Georgia Gas Rebates from Federal Government
The federal government hasn’t taken up the Gas Rebate Bill for 2022 yet, but it is looking at plan and some cities and states have adopted legislation in support of it. Inflation rebate checks are intended to aid citizens to rising costs. While they’re not a federal government program most of these rebates were issued by states’ governments using surplus funds. The federal government should consider this program as a method in order to lower the costs of fuel and other products.
Some states have tried in reducing their gas rates and are considering offering credits to the citizens of their states. Certain states, such as New York, are considering suspending the gas tax altogether or offering small rebates. The governor also proposed taxes for renters as well as homeowners who pay their gas taxes in excess of what the Federal minimum. He even has proposed cutting the tax on gas by 50 percent when the average price of unleaded gas reaches $4.51 per gallon during the summer. A few political figures in New York state have also been in favor of suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.
They are not available in all states
While the federal government is not in the process of implementing any type of stimulus package states’ lawmakers and President Biden have proposed various proposals for consumers. These proposals include a three month gas tax holiday. However, as of late June the proposal is not being debated by Congress. It could be a while before gas rebates start to roll out in every state. Although President Obama has suggested the idea of a national holiday for gas taxes but has not come across any law that would allow him to fund it.
They are controversial
Regardless of the politics of the idea, gas rebate cards are one of many ways to help Americans deal with the expense of fuel. However, they have already received some criticism. Two months ago House Democratic counsel had a negative view of the idea, saying that it would increase inflation, it was too expensive as well as not being targeted properly enough. Earlier, Senior White House aides raised concerns about the rebate cards because they were unable to find microchips.
