The federal government has not come up with the Gas Rebate act for 2022 yet, but it is looking into such an option, and a few states and cities have already implemented legislation in this regard. These rebates are intended for helping people deal with the rising cost of living. While it is not a federal program, many of the rebates offered are issued by state governments from surpluses. The federal government should take into consideration this as an effective way to address the current high prices of fuel and other products.
Some states have tried at reducing their gas taxes as well as are considering rebates or refunds to their residents. Some states, including New York, are considering dropping the gas tax completely or offering a small amount of rebate. Governor New York has also proposed tax relief for renters and homeowners who are paying gas taxes over what the Federal minimum. The governor has even suggested reducing the gas tax by half when the price for fuel without leaded hits $4.51 per gallon in summer. Some politicians in New York state have also supported the suspension of the state gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

While the federal government has not endeavoring to introduce any kind of stimulus plan State lawmakers and President Biden have made a number of proposals for consumers. These include a three-month vacation on the gas tax. As of late June, nothing concrete is being thought of by Congress. It could be a while before gas rebates start being distributed to every state. Although the President has been able to propose to extend a national gas tax holiday however, he hasn’t found the right legislation to support the holiday.
