However one White House official says the Biden administration won’t advocate for a program like this, as it would be difficult to run and requires Congressional approval. The federal government has not taken up the Gas Rebate Bill that will take effect in 2022. However, it is looking at plan and some cities and states have already adopted legislation in support of it. Checks for inflation rebates are designed be used to assist consumers in coping with the rising cost of living. While they’re not a federal government program the majority of these rebates have been issued by state governments that have surplus funds. The federal government must consider the possibility of a similar scheme as a method to combat the current high costs of gasoline and other products.
Certain states have attempted at reducing their gas taxes and are considering offering credits to the citizens of their states. Some states, including New York, are considering stopping the gas tax entirely or offering a modest rebate. The governor also proposed taxes for renters as well as homeowners who have gas taxes in excess of those at the national minimum. He’s even proposed cutting the gas tax by 50% when the average cost of non-leaded fuel reaches $4.51 per gallon in summer. Some political leaders in New York state have also been in favor of suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

While the federal government has not looking to roll out any kind of stimulus plan, state lawmakers and President Biden are putting forward various plans to assist consumers. This includes a three-month period of a gas tax vacation. As of the end of June no concrete plan is currently being considered by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates start to be offered to all states. While President Trump has proposed a national gas tax holiday, he has not found the right legislation to support it.
