The federal government hasn’t signed the Gas Rebate legislation that will take effect in 2022. However, it is considering such an option, and a few states and cities have already approved legislation for it. Inflation rebates are intended for helping people deal with the rise in prices. While it is not a federal program, many of these rebates have been issued by state governments that have surplus funds. The federal government could consider such a program as a method to counter the rising costs of gasoline and other items.
Some states have tried in reducing their gas rates and have considered offering discounts to its residents. Some states, including New York, are considering abstaining from the gas tax altogether or offering a small discount. The governor has also suggested tax reductions for renters, as well as homeowners who pay for gas in excess of levels that are higher than federal minimum rates.
