The federal government has not passed the Gas Rebate Act from 2022. However, it is considering such plans. Some cities and states have already put in place legislation for it. The purpose of these rebates is as a way to help consumers cope to rising costs. While not a federal programme, many of these rebates were issued by state governments from surpluses. The federal government could consider such a plan as a viable option to fight the current high costs of fuel and other products.
Certain states have attempted to reduce their gas tax and have considered offering cash back to citizens.
