The federal government hasn’t yet passed the Gas Rebate Law of 2022 just yet, but it is considering such an option. In addition, some states and cities have already passed legislation to support it. Inflation rebate checks are designed for helping people deal with the increasing cost of living. While they’re not a federal government program most such rebates are given by state governments that have surplus funds. The federal government needs to think about this for a practical way for tackling the current high prices of gas and other products.
A few states have tried to reduce their gas prices and are now considering offering rebates or refunds to their residents. Certain states, such as New York, are considering dropping the gas tax completely or offering a small refund. Governor Andrew Cuomo has also suggested tax reductions for renters and homeowners who pay gas taxes over levels that are higher than federal minimum rates. He has even proposed reducing the gas tax by one-half when the cost for fuel without leaded hits $4.51 per gallon during the summer. Some politicians in New York state have also proposed suspending the state’s gas tax, which is 33.3 cents per gallon.

While President Trump has proposed to extend a national gas tax holiday but has not come across an acceptable legislation to finance it.
