However according to a White House official says the Biden administration will not advocate against a similar scheme due to the fact that it would be difficult to manage and would require Congressional approval. A gas rebate card may be a good temporary fix but there are a lot of difficulties that need taken care of before the program can become the norm for American customers.

The federal government has not adopted the Gas Rebate Act in 2022, however it is looking at an idea, and some states and cities have already adopted legislation in support of it. These rebates are intended to assist citizens in coping to rising costs. While not a federal program the majority of these rebates are issued by states’ governments using surplus funds. The federal government should consider the possibility of a similar scheme as a viable option to counter the rising prices of fuel and other products.
A few states have tried at reducing their gas taxes and are also considering rebates or refunds to their residents. Some states, like New York, are considering abstaining from the gas tax altogether or offering a small rebate. The governor has also suggested tax cuts for renters and homeowners that pay gas tax in excess of that of the minimum federal rate. He has even proposed reducing the tax on gas by 50 percent when the average price of unleaded fuel hits $4.51 per gallon in summer. Some of the political leaders in New York state have also suggested suspending the state’s gas tax of 33.3 cents per gallon.

Although the federal government has not trying to put together any type of stimulus plan, state lawmakers and President Biden have come up with various ideas to help consumers. These include a three-month period of a gas tax vacation. But as of late June no concrete plan is currently being considered by Congress. It will take a few months before gas rebates begin for every state. Although President Obama has suggested that a national tax holiday on gas and has not yet found the right legislation to support the holiday.

Whatever the political stance of the idea it is one of many ways to assist Americans cope with the costs of gasoline. However, they have already faced some resistance. Two months ago House Democratic counsel was critical of the proposal, concluding that it would drive inflation, it was too expensive and wasn’t targeted well enough.
